Full description

Begin your day at Ikuta Shrine, a peaceful Shinto sanctuary nestled in the city center. One of Japan’s oldest shrines, it’s closely associated with themes of matchmaking and weaving. Stroll through its tranquil grounds as your guide shares insights into local beliefs and customs.

Continue to the Kitano-cho district, where you’ll visit Uroko-no-ie (House of Scales)—a preserved foreign residence named after its fish-scale-like exterior tiles. Inside, admire antique furnishings and Western-style architecture that reflect Kobe’s history as an international port.

Nearby, ascend to Kitano Tenman Shrine, offering panoramic views over the city and its traditional Western-style homes. The peaceful surroundings provide a perfect vantage point for photos and reflection.

Your next destination is Nankinmachi, Kobe’s lively Chinatown. Wander its bustling alleys filled with red lanterns, street vendors, and tempting aromas. Enjoy lunch at one of the many popular stalls or restaurants serving dumplings, buns, and more (lunch cost not included).

Afterward, relax at Meriken Park, a modern waterfront park with artistic monuments and open harbor views. Learn about the park’s role in Kobe’s recovery from the 1995 earthquake, and its ongoing connection to the city’s identity as a vibrant port town.

End your tour at the striking Kobe Port Tower. Ascend the observation deck to enjoy sweeping 360-degree views of Kobe, the mountains, and the bay. Optionally, visit the rotating café for a drink with a view.

Throughout the tour, your expert guide will share stories that bring each location to life, providing both cultural context and personal perspectives for a richer experience.
