History

The Laguna Illuminations debuted in 2002 as a strategic winter initiative by Laguna Ten Bosch to extend its seasonal appeal beyond summer beach tourism in Aichi’s Mikawa Bay. Initially a simple LED display to illuminate the resort’s European-style marina, it quickly captivated locals and evolved into an annual tradition showcasing Japan’s mastery of light art.

Through continuous innovation—including Japan’s first large-scale water-based 3D projection mapping in 2012 and interactive motion-sensor installations—the event solidified its status as the Chubu region’s premier illumination festival. Today, it blends cutting-edge technology with thematic storytelling, drawing over 500,000 visitors each season while honoring its roots as a beacon of winter joy on the Pacific coast.

Overview

From November 2, 2025, to April 5, 2026, Laguna Ten Bosch ignites nightly from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with the region’s most expansive light festival. This year introduces a captivating marine lantern zone featuring glowing jellyfish tunnels and shimmering coral reefs, complementing the iconic million-light pathway and a 3,500-lantern meadow that glows across the seaside lawn.

Enhanced with 360° projection mapping, choreographed fountain spectacles, and seasonal events like Christmas fireworks and a European holiday market, the illuminations offer a multisensory experience. Most displays are included with standard evening admission, ensuring broad accessibility for an unforgettable winter night out.
