Marihiko Hara is one of the pivotal figures of the universe of contemporary music due to his ability to combine powerful but subtle messages with post-rock arrangements. The musician studied at Kyoto University, where he began to explore his compositional skills, performing piano with field recordings and electronic effects. He cites Beethoven; Toru Takemitsu; and the early impressionists, such as the creators of Gregorian chants, as his main influences. In particular, Hara mentions that Ryuichi Sakamoto’s concert was the most significant experience for him, as it prompted his decision to become a composer himself and show the world the music of Beethoven performed on modern instruments.
Table of contents
Marihiko Hara tickets offer more than a concert. They allow you to witness the work of an artist who has been continually pushing the boundaries of creativity. Throughout his career, Hara has worked with the leading directors of the theater, the painters and choreographers. He co-founded the Kyoto-based art collective Dumb Type with Shiro Takatani, and created pioneering multimedia works including A Bright Room and CHROMA. His collaborations with sculptor Kohei Nawa and director Hideki Noda have helped him develop his own unique vision of integrating sound, movement, light and visual art.
Hara’s profile as a composer was greatly enhanced through his work in film and television. He directed Lee Sang-il’s The Wandering Moon, then took home the MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN Best Film Score and Best Soundtrack Album awards, as well as a Japan Academy Film Prize for his work on National Treasure. In order to score this film, Hara had to combine the strings of Western orchestral music with traditional Japanese instruments typical of the Kabuki theater, such as shamisen, drums, and singing.
