Full Itinerary

Your journey begins at Aomori Port, where your guide and driver will greet you for a short drive to the Showa Daibutsu at Seiryuji Temple. This massive bronze Buddha serves as a tranquil introduction to the region’s spiritual heritage. You will have time to walk through the temple’s pine-filled grounds and admire the five-story pagoda, one of the tallest in the country.

Next, the tour heads into the mountains for the Mount Hakkoda Ropeway. The 10-minute aerial ascent takes you to the summit station, where you can walk the “Hakkoda Gourd” trail—a flat, accessible boardwalk offering incredible views of the volcanic range. Depending on the season, you may see the famous “Snow Monsters” in winter, lush greenery in summer, or vibrant autumn leaves.

The afternoon is dedicated to Hirosaki Castle & Hirosaki Park. You will explore the historic grounds of the Tsugaru clan, walking across the iconic red bridges and through the massive wooden gates. Your guide will explain the castle’s unique “moving” history as the stone walls undergo restoration. After soaking in the history of the samurai district, you will enjoy a comfortable drive back through the apple-orchard countryside, arriving at the port with plenty of time to board your ship.

Faqs

How long is the ropeway ride at Mount Hakkoda?

The ropeway ride takes approximately 10 minutes each way. At the top, there is a summit park with observation decks and a nature trail. The total time spent at the mountain is usually around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on weather conditions.

Is Hirosaki Castle keep open to go inside?

While the exterior of the keep is a major highlight, please note that for preservation and seismic restoration, the interior of the keep may be closed periodically. However, the castle park remains open, and you can still witness the incredible sight of the keep sitting in its temporary location.

What should I wear for the Mount Hakkoda excursion?

The temperature at the summit of Mount Hakkoda is significantly cooler than at the port. We recommend bringing a light jacket or windbreaker even in summer. In spring or autumn, a heavier layer is advised to ensure you are comfortable while enjoying the views.

Is this tour suitable for guests with limited mobility?

The Showa Daibutsu and Hirosaki Park have well-maintained, flat paths. The Hakkoda Ropeway is wheelchair accessible, and the summit features a flat boardwalk trail. This tour is generally classified as a moderate activity level suitable for most travelers.

Which pier does my ship use in Aomori?

Most large cruise ships dock at the Shin-Chuo Pier (New Central Pier) or the Okidate Pier. We confirm your ship’s specific berth in advance and ensure your guide is waiting at the correct gate with a Jasumo welcome board.
