This immersive tour combines scenic wonders, spiritual landmarks, and rural charm for an unforgettable escape into Japan’s mystical countryside. It’s a perfect choice for those who want to experience Kyushu’s most stunning gorge, ride a historic sightseeing train, and explore mythological caves — all in a single day without worrying about logistics.
1. Comfortable and Convenient Departure from Fukuoka
Start your journey from Hakata Station by private coach, avoiding the stress of public transport and transfers. Your guide will accompany you throughout the tour, offering insight into the history, legends, and natural features of the region.
2. Explore Takachiho Gorge
Often considered one of Japan’s most beautiful gorges, Takachiho Gorge is renowned for its towering cliffs, lush forest, and the majestic Manai Waterfall. You can rent a rowboat (at your own expense) and float through the gorge for a close-up view of the falls, or walk along the peaceful riverside trails for photo opportunities and views from above.
3. Takachiho Sightseeing Train
Hop aboard a charming open-air train that runs along the original Amaterasu Railway line. Enjoy a slow, relaxing ride through verdant countryside, past rice fields, mountain slopes, and historic bridges.
Note: The train does not operate on the third Thursday of each month or during certain holidays and weather conditions. In these cases, your visit will be redirected to Takachiho Shrine, a sacred site in Japanese mythology.
4. Visit Amanoyasukawara (Tenyasu River Cave)
Walk along a quiet trail into the forest to reach this revered cave, believed to be the hiding place of the sun goddess Amaterasu. Inside the cave, countless small stone towers are stacked by past visitors making wishes. The site exudes a solemn and mystical atmosphere, deeply rooted in Shinto legend.
