Renowned for its gold-adorned architecture and historical significance, it includes iconic structures such as the Meiyō Gate and Karamon Gate. The shrine is famous for the “Three Wise Monkeys” carving and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
Recognized as one of Japan’s “100 Selected Roads,” this scenic 15.8 km mountain pass connecting Nikko City and Lake Chuzenji features 48 iconic curves. It is especially popular in autumn when the route is blanketed in vivid red and gold foliage.
Take a short ride on the cable car to reach the observation deck perched at 1,373 meters above sea level. The view offers sweeping vistas of Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls, particularly stunning during peak autumn color.
