Overview

Dive into the imaginative and often surreal world of Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797–1861), the “super creator” of the late Edo period. Known for his dynamic warrior prints, whimsical caricatures of animals, and striking portraits of beautiful women, Kuniyoshi was a visionary who pushed the boundaries of traditional ukiyo-e. This massive retrospective features approximately 400 works, including his legendary multi-panel triptychs and witty satirical pieces that successfully evaded government censorship with humor and creativity.

This tour travels to Nagoya and Kyoto, offering a rare comprehensive look at the genius of an artist whose works remain as bold and modern today as they were in the 19th century.
