Full Description

Your experience begins at a cozy Japanese house where your English-speaking host will welcome you. The session starts with a hands-on wagashi-making class in the kitchen. You’ll learn to make one traditional type of wagashi, not just by watching, but by participating in every step.

Once the sweets are made, your tea ceremony experience begins. First, you’ll receive an explanation of proper etiquette, basic tea ceremony manners, and the layout of a Japanese-style room.

Weather permitting, you’ll walk through a small garden to an authentic Japanese tatami room. There, the instructor will share the cultural history of the tea ceremony, the meaning of the scroll in the alcove, and the significance of every element in the space.

Enjoy the sweets you’ve just made while watching a live demonstration on how to properly drink matcha. The host will then perform the traditional tea preparation, and you’ll taste a freshly whisked bowl of matcha.

Finally, you’ll be guided through making your own bowl of matcha using a bamboo tea whisk. This entire experience is led by certified interpreter-guides, ensuring that you gain meaningful insights throughout the class.

By the end of the session, you’ll be equipped to share both wagashi and the ritual of matcha preparation with friends and family — a truly unique souvenir from Japan.
