Overview
Woyzeck, one of the 19th century’s most representative unfinished plays by German dramatist Georg Büchner, is revived in a provocative new adaptation by contemporary playwright Jack Thorne, making its highly anticipated Japanese premiere. Directed by acclaimed Japanese theater artist Eriko Ogawa (artistic director of New National Theatre Tokyo since 2018), this production stars Go Morita (known for roles in VIVANT and The 8th Day of the Week) as the tormented soldier Woyzeck, whose descent into madness amid poverty, exploitation, and jealousy culminates in tragedy. The ~2-hour play explores themes of social oppression, mental health, and human fragility, updated to resonate with modern audiences through Ogawa’s innovative staging. Co-starring Rikka Ihara, Kayo Ise, Shinya Hamada, Satsuki Nakagami, Mizuki Sudo, Shun Ishii, Soya Kataoka, Norimasa Tomiya, and Hideo Kurihara, the production has garnered praise on X for Morita’s “raw intensity” and Ogawa’s “bold, contemporary edge.” Presented by PARCO PRODUCE 2025, the tour runs from September 23 to November 16, 2025, across Tokyo, Aichi, Hyogo, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka, starting at Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Playhouse (~800 capacity) and visiting venues like Hyogo Performing Arts Center (~500 capacity), blending Büchner’s fragmented script with Thorne’s 2017 London version for a fresh, era-defying take.

As a business based in Japan with a bilingual staff and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by non-Japanese visitors, we address common bottlenecks such as:
- Language Barriers: Navigating Japan’s primarily Japanese-language ticketing systems can be challenging for foreign tourists. Jasumo provides bilingual support to bridge this gap and ensure a smooth booking experience.
- Access to Japanese-Only Platforms: Many events in Japan require local knowledge to navigate and access, and often these platforms do not offer international payment options or are difficult to use for non-Japanese speakers. We facilitate the booking process by providing guidance and helping with international payment methods where applicable.
- Limited Availability & Complex Registration: Events in Japan often have limited capacity, and understanding the timing and process for securing tickets can be confusing for international visitors. Jasumo helps you manage deadlines and requirements, giving you the best chance of securing your entry.
Due to high demand for Woyzeck, with critically low availability (e.g., Tokyo dates sold out, Hyogo lottery until Sep 6), availability is not guaranteed. Refunds will only be issued if entries cannot be secured through official channels or in case of cancellation. We strongly recommend purchasing tickets by August 15, 2025, at official prices (~¥5,000–¥12,500) or monitoring official resale (~5 days prior to each show) to avoid inflated reseller prices (e.g., ¥18,000 for Tokyo Sep 23).
