Product Details / Description:

The Sony FE 20-70mm F4 G is a lens engineered for the modern hybrid shooter. By extending the wide end to 20mm, it eliminates the need to carry a separate ultra-wide lens, covering the most frequently used focal lengths for travel, documentary, and video content creation in a single lens.

About the Product

The advanced optical design features 16 elements in 13 groups, including two advanced aspherical (AA) lenses and other specialized elements to control aberration and ensure high resolution. The constant F4 aperture maintains consistent exposure across the zoom range and contributes to pleasing bokeh thanks to the 9-blade circular aperture.

Autofocus is driven by two of Sony’s state-of-the-art XD Linear Motors, ensuring the AF is exceptionally quick, quiet, and highly precise—a necessity for video recording and fast-paced photography. The lens boasts impressive close-up performance, allowing you to focus as close as 0.25m at the telephoto end for a maximum magnification of 0.39x. Furthermore, it features professional controls, including a Focus Hold Button and three independent control rings for precise manual focus, zoom, and aperture adjustment.

Faqs:

Why is the 20-70mm range unique and beneficial for travel?

Standard zoom lenses typically start at 24mm or 28mm. The 20mm start on this lens provides a significantly wider field of view, which is excellent for capturing the full scale of large temples, wide landscapes, or tight interior spaces, and is ideal for shooting video while holding the camera close to your face (vlogging).

How do the Dual XD Linear Motors improve performance?

The dual motor system provides the necessary torque to quickly and accurately move the focusing elements. This results in fast, precise, and virtually silent autofocus, which is crucial for capturing spontaneous travel moments and ensuring focus is stable during video recording.

Does this lens have image stabilization?

The lens itself does not have built-in optical image stabilization. However, it is fully compatible with the In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) systems found in modern Sony E-mount cameras, relying on the camera body for shake correction.

What does the maximum magnification of 0.39x allow me to shoot?

A maximum magnification of 0.39x (achieved at the 70mm telephoto end with the closest focus distance) is nearly half-life-size macro (1:2). This allows you to capture impressive close-up detail shots of food, small crafts, or intricate textures with excellent clarity, adding great versatility to your travel images.
