Your guide and rickshaw will meet you just outside the intersection by Todaiji Temple, home to the world’s largest bronze statue of Buddha Vairocana (Daibutsu).
Choose the option that best suits your interests:
1) 70 minutes: Mt. Wakakusa and the famous deer of Nara
Leave the historical temples behind and enjoy the lush greenery of Mt. Wakakusa, covered entirely with grass. On clear days, enjoy views of Nara city’s skyline. Feed the gentle deer with biscuits provided by the company. (Note: deer at Mt. Wakakusa are gentle; those near Todaiji Temple can be more assertive.)
2) 130 minutes: Unkei Buddhist statue tour
Perfect for lovers of Japanese Buddhist art. Visit Kofukuji Temple’s National Treasure Hall, Tokondo Hall, Chukondo Hall, and Todaiji Temple’s Nandaimon Gate. Your knowledgeable guide will provide detailed explanations about the renowned Buddhist sculptors and their masterpieces.
3) 190 minutes: World Heritage tour including sake tasting
Visit Todaiji Temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine, two proud World Heritage Sites of Nara. Enjoy a ride through the historic Naramachi old townscape. Experience sake tasting at a traditional brewery in Nara, the birthplace of Japanese sake. You may purchase a bottle to take home.
Tours typically end at the starting point but the finishing location can be customized upon consultation with your guide.
