Full Description
In this hands-on class, you’ll experience the traditional Japanese art of shodō (calligraphy) in a relaxed and friendly environment. Whether you’re a total beginner or just curious, this class is a great introduction to Japanese writing and brush techniques.
What You’ll Do:
- Brush & Ink Basics
Begin with a demonstration on how to hold and use the brush, and how to prepare the ink. The instructor will guide you step-by-step in English. - Practice Basic Kanji
Learn to write common kanji characters like “One,” “A,” “Big,” and “Kyoto.” You’ll be shown the proper stroke order and meaning behind each character. - Personalized Calligraphy Scroll
Create a decorative scroll using the kanji you’ve practiced — a unique souvenir to take home. - Write Your Name in Kanji
Get help translating your name or a word of your choice into kanji. The instructor will explain the meaning of each character.
Examples:- Brian → 武礼安 (Martial, Courtesy, Peace)
- Liz → 梨図 (Pear, Painting)
