Step into the world of Japan’s legendary warriors with this immersive kendo and sword-handling experience in Kyoto. Dress in full samurai gear, learn authentic techniques, and gain insight into the discipline and history of these iconic fighters — all inside a 120-year-old traditional Japanese building.
Discover the essence of the samurai through a hands-on sword experience guided by an expert instructor. Held inside a historic Kyoto home, this activity introduces you to the spirit, discipline, and movement behind Japan’s ancient warrior class.
You’ll be outfitted in real samurai training gear, including a full uniform and protective equipment. Using a variety of safe practice weapons — including bamboo swords, foam swords, and blunt replica blades — you’ll learn foundational techniques in both kendo and traditional swordsmanship.
The session is designed for all skill levels — no prior martial arts experience is necessary. Your instructor will also help capture memorable moments with photos and videos throughout your training.
At the end of the experience, you’ll even get the chance to perform a real tatami mat cutting exercise using a proper sword, putting your new skills to the test.
