The Nebuta Matsuri (ねぶた祭り), one of Japan’s most awe-inspiring festivals, lights up the streets of Aomori City in 2026 with vibrant illuminated floats and the powerful chants of “Rassera! Rassera!”. This centuries-old festival draws over 3 million visitors, celebrating the summer spirit with massive, handcrafted floats depicting warriors, mythical creatures, and historical figures.

Festival Highlights:

Giant Illuminated Floats (Nebuta): Admire over 20 colossal floats crafted by local artisans, each glowing with intricate designs and bold colors as they parade through the streets at night. The floats can reach up to 9 meters wide and 5 meters tall.
Haneto Dancers: Join or watch the lively haneto dancers, dressed in colorful costumes, who jump and chant alongside the floats, inviting spectators to dance with them. Anyone can participate – just rent a haneto outfit and join the fun!
Night Parades: The festival’s night processions (August 2–6) are the main attraction, with the final evening culminating in a magnificent fireworks display over Aomori Bay.
Fireworks Finale: On August 7, the festival ends with a spectacular fireworks show and the release of floating nebuta lanterns into the bay, creating a magical reflection on the water.
Traditional Music & Taiko Drumming: Experience the heart-pounding sound of taiko drums, flutes, and cymbals that bring the streets alive with rhythm.
