NiSi Variable ND True Color ND Vario 58mm Rental in Japan

Product Summary:

The NiSi Variable ND True Color ND Vario 58mm is a premium variable neutral density (ND) filter available for rental, designed to provide filmmakers and photographers with precise exposure control and superior color accuracy while traveling in Japan. With a fifty-eight millimeter filter diameter, it is ideal for standard kit lenses and many compact prime lenses.

This filter offers smooth, continuous adjustment of light reduction from one to five stops (ND two to ND thirty-two). It incorporates NiSi’s advanced TRUE COLOR technology, which effectively counteracts the yellow or color cast common in variable ND filters, ensuring your colors remain true. A mechanical stopper limits the rotation range, reliably preventing the formation of the distracting “X-shaped” unevenness in light transmission.

Quick Highlights:

• Variable ND Density: Adjustable from one to five stops (ND two to ND thirty-two).
• Fifty-Eight Millimeter Diameter: Compatible with many common camera lenses.
• True Color Technology: Eliminates color shifts/yellow cast for accurate color.
• Prevents X-Pattern: Hard stopper limits rotation to avoid cross-polarization artifacts.
• Nano-Coating: Suppresses ghosting and flare for clean image quality.

Product Details / Description:

Achieve cinematic motion blur for video or creative long exposures for photography, even under bright Japanese skies, using the NiSi Variable ND True Color ND Vario 58mm filter. This essential tool grants you the freedom to control your aperture and shutter speed independently of ambient light, improving the professional quality of your footage.

About the Product

Variable ND filters achieve their effect by overlapping two polarizing layers. The NiSi True Color Vario is distinguished by its unique optical formulation, which neutralizes the typical color contamination (yellow/magenta cast) caused by this interaction, resulting in footage with accurate, neutral colors. This greatly reduces time needed for color correction in post-production. The filter glass also features a protective nano-coating that repels water and suppresses internal reflections, minimizing ghosting and flare.

For professional reliability, a physical stopper is integrated into the rotation ring. This stopper ensures the filter cannot be turned past the maximum usable density, thereby eliminating the unsightly, dark “X” pattern—a critical feature for maintaining image integrity throughout the adjustable range. Please check the filter diameter of your lens carefully to ensure it is fifty-eight millimeters before booking your rental.

Key Features

• Provides continuous exposure control from one stop to five stops of light reduction.
• Maintains neutral and accurate colors due to TRUE COLOR technology.
• Mechanical stopper prevents optical artifacts like the “X” pattern.
• Excellent for controlling depth of field and achieving smooth motion blur in bright daylight.
• Note: This filter is designed for light reduction and does not function as a circular polarizer to control reflections.

Faqs:

What does the fifty-eight millimeter diameter refer to?

The fifty-eight millimeter diameter refers to the size of the filter thread on the front of your camera lens. The filter will only screw onto lenses that have a fifty-eight millimeter filter thread.

What is the benefit of the filter’s one-to-five stop adjustability?

This wide, continuous adjustment range allows you to quickly adapt to changing light conditions by simply rotating the ring, giving you the flexibility to maintain a fixed shutter speed for video (cinematic look) or a desired aperture (depth of field) in any light.

How does the hard stopper prevent the “X-shaped unevenness”?

The hard stopper is a physical limit on the filter’s rotation. It prevents you from turning the filter past the point where the two polarizing layers create an optical interference pattern (the “X” pattern), ensuring the filter is usable across its entire density range.

What is the importance of “TRUE COLOR” technology?

TRUE COLOR technology is crucial because it corrects for the color cast that is typically introduced by variable ND filters, guaranteeing that the colors captured in your video and photos are neutral and accurate.

Can I use this filter to polarize reflections?

No, the product notes clearly state that the PL filter effect is negated. This filter’s function is solely for light reduction (ND) and it will not effectively remove reflections from water or glass.
