Overview

Experience a poignant exploration of the Shinsengumi through the evocative medium of a reading drama at Tokyo’s historic Hakuhinkan Theater. This production, titled “Shinsengumi’s Love – Where Spring Lies,” delves into the internal lives of the men who lived as samurai during a period of intense historical upheaval. Based on the emotional conversations surrounding the “Yamanami Seppuku Eve,” the script highlights the deep devotion these men held for their ideals and their loved ones, bringing a human touch to the legendary warriors of the late Edo period.

The production features a gorgeous rotating cast of popular voice actors, with different performers appearing in each session to offer unique interpretations of the story. Directed and written by Atsumi Dojo, the play focuses on the balance between the strict code of the samurai and the vulnerability of the human heart. Set in an intimate theater environment, the performance relies on the powerful vocal artistry of the cast to transport the audience back to a time of honor, sacrifice, and unspoken affection.
