Full Description

Begin your journey with a guided visit to a beautiful Zen garden, where your guide will explain the deep connection between nature and Zen philosophy. Before sitting for meditation, you’ll have the chance to feel the peace and clarity these carefully designed gardens offer.

Next, you’ll visit Tofukuji Temple, a major Zen temple founded in the 13th century. Here, admire important historical structures like the Sanmon gate, ancient murals, and temple architecture.

The heart of the experience is a zazen meditation session held at a sub-temple used for monastic training. You’ll learn about posture, breathing, and mindfulness through silent practice. English reading materials are provided to help guide you during the session.

Afterward, reflect on the meditation experience and enjoy a Shojin Ryori vegetarian meal—monastic cuisine based on seasonal ingredients like mushrooms, tofu, and seaweed. Though it includes dashi (fish broth) and a small amount of dairy, it is rooted in centuries-old Zen dietary traditions.

Conclude your day with a calming conversation over tea or coffee at a local café, reflecting on the insights you’ve gained through Zen practice and nature immersion.
