Full Description

Sashiko, meaning “little stabs,” originated in Japan during the Edo period as a practical stitching technique used to repair and reinforce garments. Over time, it evolved into a decorative craft rich with symbolic meaning. Today, it is celebrated as a meditative and meaningful form of expression.

In this 2 to 3-hour workshop, held in a charming studio space in Osaka, you’ll be introduced to the core techniques of Sashiko by our experienced and passionate instructor, June. After a brief introduction to the cultural background of Sashiko, you’ll be guided through the steps to create your own beautiful patterns using traditional tools, fabrics, and threads.

This immersive experience is designed for all skill levels. You’ll enjoy a relaxed, creative atmosphere while learning about the purpose and symbolism behind popular stitch patterns. Whether you’re interested in Japanese culture, textile design, or slow crafting, this workshop is a perfect introduction to a treasured Japanese art form.
